That light turns off ever in a Mini? I figured it would just be a permanent thing

That light is the boss. You better do what he says if you want to still have a car to drive.

If the light is off then you need to change the engine. That how it works in Minis.

My SO wants a Copper S... how do you like that car?

It’s a very nice car, much torqu
ier
than you would expect from a 1.6L, the suspension is firm but still comfortable
enough for my 60 mile commute. My only complaint with car really, is the shifter is a tad bit notchy but still affirmative so it isn’t huge
ly
bad.

Put some WD40 or grease on the shifter linkage (under the airbox). That made the shift action much smoother for me.

It has its good points. Aka the car is fantastic when the engine doesn’t have any problems. Get a third gen. Those are rock solid. Then add exhaust parts and things that make it have extra braap. A Dinan exhaust

Mine finally did

1st gen best gen. Supercharger > Turbocharger.

Mk2 worst gen

The 2011+ models were OK but I do agree with you.

Can confirm - I was with my friend when the engine shit out in his (all of 24k miles on it) and there wasn’t a single light or warning until it was all over and we were coasting to the side of the road
.

Dont buy an auto. I tried so hard to convince the wife to get a stick. So much lag off the line that turning across multiple lanes of traffic is scary.

What happened?

Depends on your definition of “soon” - geologic time scale? You’re fine.

It somehow misplaced all its coolant over the course of the morning (wasn’t visibly steaming from the exhaust
nor leaking out, it was weird
) and reached approximately the temperature of the sun before deciding to die, at which point a warning light came on saying to go to the nearest dealer. The entire engine (long block)
was replaced (this is an R56 S with all the JCW / GP parts
).

Damn!
Bmw never did learn how to make a good coolant system...
